Travel Information

The best way to reach Salvador is by air. The International airport of Salvador serves direct international flights to and from Buenos Aires, Madrid, Miami, Frankfurt am Main and Lisbon. There are regular domestic flights to Salvador departing from the International Airports of São Paulo (Guarulhos) and Rio de Janeiro (Galeão). Connections from other Brazilian state capitals are also available. There are direct flights to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro from all major airports in the world. Other cities in Brazil (e.g. Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre) are also served by international flights and provide connections to Salvador.

Airport Transfer

The best way to reach the symposium venue (Pestana Bahia Hotel ) from the airport is to use the FirstClass Airport Bus Service.

You should leave at the Rua Fonte do Boi stop. It is about 50 m from the hotel entrance. Usually, if you tell the driver that you are going to the Pestana Bahia Hotel he will stop directly at the hotel entrance and save you some walking.

The bus departs from the airport at the folling hours: 07:30, 08:10, 08:50, 08:30, 10:30, 11:10, 11:50, 12:30, 13:30, 14:10, 14:50, 15:30, 16:30, 17:10, 18:30, 19:30, 20:10, 20:50, 22:00, 23:00 (this one only from Monday to Friday)

The ticket costs R$ 30,00 and you can purchase it on board. MasterCard, Visa and Diners Club are accepted

Language

The spoken language in Brazil is Portuguese.

Climate

The climate in Salvador is tropical and changes very little over the year. Temperatures in August range mostly between 22 and 31 Celsius.

Currency

The unit of currency is Reais (R$), which is divided into 100 centavos. Indicative exchange rates are:

1 US Dollar = R$ 3,15

Banking

Banks open at 10:00AM and close at 04:00PM at capitals and at 03:30PM at other cities. ATMs are widely available and operate between 06:00AM and 10:00PM.

Credit Cards

Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted. Many restaurants and shops accept American Express and Diners Club as well. Payment by credit card usually requires proof of identity, i.e. Passport.

Tipping

It is optional and about 10% of the service.

Visa

Visa requirements change very often, threfore, please, check with the proper consular authorities.

In general, a visa is not required (for Tourist/30-90 days) for citizens of European Union countries, most South America countries, South Korea, Israel and others.

A visa is required for citizens of USA, Canada, Australia, most countries in Asia, Africa and Oceania and others.
